Semarang, September 2024 – In order to improve student competence in the maritime and ship operation sectors, the Shipping Construction Engineering Technology (TRKP) program of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University (Undip) sent a student delegation to take part in intensive training in Ship Handling Simulator at Jiangsu Shipping College (JSSC), China.
This training is part of the international cooperation between Undip Vocational School and JSSC in the development of maritime-based vocational education. The activity lasts for two weeks, during which students are introduced to advanced simulation technology designed to practice boating, navigation, and maneuvering skills in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.
The Dean of the Undip Vocational School, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiyono, M.Si., said that this training aims to increase the competitiveness of TRKP graduates in facing the challenges of the global maritime industry. By studying directly at JSSC, students not only gain technical experience, but also insight into international standards in boat operation. This is in line with our vision to produce competent and highly competitive experts,” he said.
Modern Ship SimulationJSSC is known as a leading seafarer training center in China with modern ship simulation facilities that mimic the operation of real ships, including navigation, radar, and communication systems. Students are given realistic scenarios, ranging from sailing in dense waters to facing extreme weather conditions.
One of the participants, Wahyu Eko Setiawan, a TRKP student of the class of 2023, admitted that he was impressed with the facilities available. We learned how to make quick decisions in emergency situations. The simulation technology is really close to reality, so we are more confident to apply this knowledge in the field,” he said.
Strengthening International CollaborationThe collaboration with JSSC is a strategic step to expand the international network of Undip Vocational Schools. In addition to training, this collaboration also includes student and lecturer exchange programs, joint research, and technology-based curriculum development.
Through this training, it is hoped that TRKP Undip graduates will be able to become professionals who meet international standards and are ready to contribute to the maritime sector, both nationally and globally.” We are optimistic that the learning experience at JSSC will have a positive impact on the development of student competencies. This is a great investment for the future of vocational education at Undip,” added Prof. Budiyono.
About the TRKP ProgramThe Fishing Vessel Engineering Technology Program (TRKP) is one of the flagship programs of the Undip Vocational School which focuses on technical skills education in the field of design, operation, and maintenance of fishing vessels. This program is designed to support the development of the fisheries and maritime sector in Indonesia.
Undip Vocational School continues to be committed to providing quality education and expanding student access to the latest technology, so as to be able to produce graduates who are adaptive to industrial needs in the era of globalization
