Semarang, September 5, 2024 – In an effort to improve student competence in the field of shipping technology, the Fishery Ship Engineering Technology Study Program (TRKP) of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University (Undip) held an intensive training program on ship engine operation at Jiangsu Shipping College, China (JSSC), China. This training lasted for two weeks and was attended by a number of the best students. This activity is part of the strategic cooperation between the Undip Vocational School and JSSC, which aims to introduce students to international standards in the operation of modern ship engines.
The Dean of the Undip Vocational School, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiyono, M.Si., stated that this training is one of the concrete steps to improve the quality of TRKP graduates to be able to compete in the global world of work.” This training provides direct experience to students in operating ship engines using advanced equipment, in accordance with the needs of the international shipping industry,” he said.
Modern Facilities and Intensive TrainingJSSC is known as an international standard seafarer training center with complete facilities to support the operational learning of ship engines. During the training, students learn various technical aspects, from controlling the main engine system, auxiliary engine maintenance, to ship energy management.
JSSC instructors provide hands-on, hands-on training, which involves the use of ship engine simulators based on the latest technology. In the session, students were trained to handle various scenarios, including troubleshooting in emergency conditions. Nabila Aulia, one of the trainees, admitted that she was impressed with the experience obtained. We learn to operate and maintain boat engines in depth, including understanding fuel efficiency and safety systems. This really opens up our insights into the technology used in the global maritime industry,” he said.
Job Opportunities and Global CompetenciesIn addition to improving technical skills, this training also opens up job opportunities for students. According to Prof. Budiyono, graduates who have international experience like this will be easier to be accepted into national and international shipping companies.” This activity not only provides technical expertise, but also builds students’ confidence to compete in the global job market,” he added.
Supporting the Indonesian Maritime IndustryThis program is in line with the vision of the Undip Vocational School to support the development of the maritime sector in Indonesia. With the expertise gained from this training, TRKP students are expected to contribute to improving the operational efficiency of fishing vessels and supporting the sustainability of the national shipping industry.
The collaboration with JSSC also includes a plan for lecturer exchanges and joint research, which will enrich the technology-based curriculum at TRKP Undip.” We hope that this collaboration can continue and produce more graduates who are competent and relevant to the needs of the world of work,” concluded Prof. Budiyono.
