Balongan, January 31, 2025 – The Naval Construction Engineering Technology Study Program continues to show its commitment to producing graduates who are ready to compete in the industry by sending its best students to take part in an internship program at PT. Pertamina International Balongan. This activity aims to provide direct experience to students in the world of work, especially in the shipping and energy industries.
A total of 4 students participated in this internship program which lasted for one month, Muhammad Rafif Harvani, Franky, Stanislaus Farrel Kristanto, Muhammad Insan Maulana, Andhika Berliano Radya Nugraha. During the internship, students get the opportunity to work directly in the field, operate industrial equipment, and learn about safety standards and regulations that apply in the maritime sector.
The Dean of the Vocational School, Prof. Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiyono, M.Si, said that this internship program is an important part of the educational curriculum. “We hope that students can develop their technical skills and professionalism through this experience, as well as build networks with industry practitioners,” he said.
Meanwhile, PT. Pertamina Balongan, appreciated the arrival of the internship students and emphasized that this collaboration provides benefits for both parties.
The students who took part in this program admitted that they gained a lot of valuable insights and experiences. One of the participants, Muhammad Insan Maulana shared his impression, “I am very enthusiastic to be directly involved in the operations of this industry. There are many things that I didn’t get in class that I can learn here. This internship aims to provide hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry, with a primary focus on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), and Radiographic Testing (RT) as per ASME Section V and API 650 standards. In addition, participants also learned about the fabrication of floating roof tanks according to API 650, the tank welding process, and the application of Single Point Mooring (SPM) in refinery operations,” he said.
This internship program is expected to be the first step for students to be better prepared to face the world of work and improve their competence in the field of shipping construction engineering technology. With the cooperation between universities and industry, the graduates produced will be more adaptive and ready to face the challenges of the maritime and energy industry in the future.
