Cirebon, May 8, 2025 — Students from the Naval Architecture Engineering Technology Program (TRKP) at the Vocational School of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) conducted an industrial visit to two major shipyards in Cirebon: PT Daya Bahari Nusantara (DBN) and PT Dok & Perkapalan Bahari (DKB). The visit aimed to provide students with hands-on exposure to real shipbuilding processes and to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial practice in the maritime sector.
The visit involved students from the 4th semesters, accompanied by faculty members from TRKP UNDIP. During the activity, students received presentations on ship production workflows, quality management systems in the shipyards, and an introduction to key facilities and equipment, including slipways, dry docks, and fabrication workshops.
Secretary of the TRKP Program, Dr. Zulfaidah Ariany, S.T., M.T., emphasized that the visit is a vital component of the experiential learning approach implemented in the curriculum. “Our students are not only learning from textbooks and lectures but also from direct observation of ship construction practices. This experience is essential for preparing them to enter the professional maritime industry,” he stated.
In addition to on-site observations, students engaged in discussions with technical staff at the shipyards about current challenges in shipbuilding, occupational safety standards, and recent technological developments in the field.
This industrial visit is expected to enhance students’ understanding of real-world operations in shipyards, foster a professional mindset, and encourage the development of both technical and soft skills necessary for their future careers.
Through initiatives like this, TRKP UNDIP reaffirms its commitment to producing highly skilled maritime vocational graduates who are academically strong and practically ready for the demands of the shipbuilding industry.
